What is hysterosonography?

Hysterosonography, also known as sonohysterosalpingography, is a gynecological technique that allows visualizing the uterine cavity and the patency of the fallopian tubes using a saline solution. No prior preparation is required on the part of the patient and it is not a painful procedure for the woman.

Thanks to the administration of the saline solution, the endometrial walls are separated and it can be seen if there is any alteration. Hysterosonography allows to identify polyps, fibroids, uterine malformations, endometrial adhesions, etc.

Despite being a painless technique, some patients describe cramping from the insertion of the saline solution. In other cases, some women have experienced minor vaginal bleeding in the days following the procedure.
