Sperm are formed in the testicles, but the process consists of several phases. Therefore, any alteration could affect sperm production and, therefore, cause male infertility.
For example, varicocele is the inflammation of the veins of the spermatic cord. Those males with varicocele who undergo surgery usually recover their fertility.
Another example would be orchitis or testicular inflammation. The causes of orchitis are unknown, but are often associated with childhood mumps.
