Implanon is a subdermal contraceptive implant containing 68 mg of etonogestrel, a synthetic progestin. Its function is to prevent ovulation and to provoke changes in the cervix that prevent the entrance of spermatozoa.
The effectiveness of Implanon is quite high during the 3 years of duration. After this time it will be necessary to change the implant or contraceptive method.
