When resorting to in vitro fertilization (IVF) to achieve pregnancy, it is important that both the woman and the man meet a series of requirements.
In the case of the male, if his sperm quality is excellent, both conventional IVF and sperm microinjection or ICSI can be performed. However, it is becoming more and more common to always perform ICSI.
However, if there is any alteration in the seminal quality, if the sperm have been obtained by testicular biopsy or if a semen sample that was previously frozen is going to be used, then the indicated fertilization technique would be ICSI.
