Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can cause both male and female infertility. For this reason, an STD may make it difficult or impossible to get pregnant.
That is why it is so important to use a safe method of birth control to prevent an STD. Although there are many contraceptives available today, only a condom is safe to use to prevent getting an STD. In addition, there are some vaccines that prevent viral infections, such as human papillomavirus or hepatitis B.
The IUD, birth control pills, and the implant are birth control methods that prevent pregnancy but do not protect against STDs.
