Sometimes an IVF cycle develops as it should, including the stages of egg retrieval. However, several factors can lead to IVF cancellation prior to the embryo transfer.
Firstly, in the worst-case scenario, an embryo transfer might have to be cancelled due to absence of embryos to transfer, or due to embryonic arrest at an earlier stage of embryo development. This would mean starting an stimulation cycle anew.
On the other hand, having an inadequate endometrium before the transfer is another common cause of IVF embryo transfer cancellation. Not having the appropriate endometrial thickness for implantation is a good example.
