Semen quality is one of the factors to take into account when seeking pregnancy, either naturally or through assisted reproductive techniques.
Men with good semen quality can become fathers through artificial insemination (AI). On the other hand, if the quality of the semen is altered because, for example, it has few spermatozoa, then it would be best to resort to in vitro fertilization with sperm microinjection or IVF-ICSI.
Another possible situation is that the male has no spermatozoa in the ejaculate, that is, he is diagnosed with azoospermia. In this case, there would be the possibility of performing a testicular biopsy to try to recover sperm directly from the testicle and use them in an IVF-ICSI treatment. If sperm retrieval is not possible, then the alternative would be to resort to a sperm donor.
