When a multiple pregnancy occurs, various gestational complications may arise. The risk of premature delivery and cesarean delivery in multiple pregnancies is higher compared to singleton pregnancies. In addition, babies often have a low birth weight and may develop congenital anomalies.
This is why in assisted reproduction treatments it is increasingly common to opt for the transfer of a single embryo. This reduces the chances of a multiple pregnancy and the risks associated with it.
