Description

Next Fertility Murcia, formerly known as Tahe Fertilidad, is an assisted reproduction clinic that has been in operation since 2008, although it was in 2022 when it became part of the Next Fertility group.

Currently, the medical director of Next Fertility Murcia is Dr. Ana María Villaquirán; while the laboratory is directed by Emilio Gómez Sánchez. Alongside these two work 12 other specialists from different fields: embryology, gynecology, nursing, patient care, etc.

Next Fertility Murcia performs more than 600 cycles per year and 25% of their patients are international. In addition, this clinic has ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality certificates.

If you need information on how to get to the clinic, either by public or private transport, please click here.

The Facility

Next Fertility Murcia is located in a residential and pedestrian area. In addition, the environment is very pleasant and has several services around it.

The following section is a list of all the center's facilities, with the resources and technology available to perform assisted reproduction treatments.

Building and surroundings

Next Fertility Murcia is located in Avenida Europa, a residential and pedestrian area. In addition, Avenida Juan Carlos I runs parallel to the clinic and is one of the main roads in the city. From here there is a direct exit to the highway.

The facade of the clinic is brown in color and occupies the lower part of a building. In total, Next Fertility Murcia has 700 square meters between which the reception, waiting rooms, consultation rooms, operating room, laboratories, etc. are distributed. In addition, the entire space of Next Fertility Murcia is adapted for people with reduced mobility. The doors are very wide and have adapted toilets as well.

Another advantage of the location of Next Fertility Murcia is that there is a parking area right next to the clinic. There is also the Zig Zag leisure center just a 10 minute walk from Next Fertility Murcia.

Reception and waiting room

To the right of the entrance door to Next Fertility Murcia is the reception area with a brown counter and transparent lamps hanging from the ceiling.

There are 3-4 people working here who work shifts. All the reception staff speak Spanish and English and some of them also speak Italian and German.

If you follow the corridor forward, you will find the waiting rooms. There are 3 individual waiting rooms, which guarantees greater privacy and confidentiality for the patient.

The furniture present in each of these waiting rooms is: armchairs and a television to make the wait more pleasant. The staff at Next Fertility Murcia offer all patients coffee and water while they await their appointment in the waiting rooms. The average wait time is usually 10-25 minutes before the consultation.

However, when patients leave the consultation room they return to these waiting rooms until they are given their quotations. This can take some time, since the estimates are personalized according to the indications of the medical specialist.

A peculiarity of the waiting rooms at Next Fertility Murcia is that they have two doors. One of them is the entrance from the hallway coming from reception. The other door is where patients leave to enter directly to the consultation room.

Consulting room

In Next Fertility Murcia there are 3 consultation rooms. All of them are divided into a confidential area and an examination area separated by a glass partition.

In the confidential area there is a white table and two chairs. There is also a door to a bathroom that has a sink and a toilet in case the patient needs to enter before or after the examination.

In the examination area, Next Fertility Murcia consultations have a gynecological couch, a Voluson ultrasound scanner of lastest generation, a sink, that is, all the necessary material. In addition, the consultations have a screen so that patients themselves can look at the antral follicle count or the gestational sac, for example.

There are 2 gynecologists working here and both of them are on call during weekends and holidays in case an ovarian puncture or embryo transfer is needed. In addition, the gynecologists speak both Spanish and English if necessary.

Operating room

The operating room of Next Fertility Murcia occupies about 20 square meters and is spacious. The anesthesiologist, the gynecologist, the nurse and the clinic assistant are usually present during the procedures.

In addition, the door that connects to the laboratory is always open during the punctures to facilitate the passage of biological samples.

The surgical area of Next Fertility Murcia is fully equipped with everything necessary to perform minor outpatient surgeries, such as hysteroscopies or biopsies. Therefore, the operating room has a gynecological stretcher, respirator, anesthesia equipment, hysteroscope, General Electric ultrasound, defibrillator, a monitor, and so on.

Next Fertility Murcia is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm; while embryo transfers are usually performed from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. In case of holidays or weekends, the schedule for both punctures and transfers is from 08:30 to 12:00 hours.

Next Fertility Murcia's operating room is a sterile and clean space. All its corners and floor baseboards are rounded to avoid the accumulation of dirt. In addition, the material of the laboratory and operating room walls is specially designed for such purposes.

Laboratories

Next Fertility Murcia has two laboratories, one for andrology and the other for IVF. In total, the laboratory of Next Fertility Murcia occupies about 40 square meters where 3 embryologists work. All of them speak Spanish and English and are on call when necessary.

Regarding the security and traceability of samples, Next Fertility Murcia uses Witness. This system is based on the use of radiofrequency identification chips that are attached to each sample. In this way, it is known at all times to which patient the samples belong and confusion between samples is avoided.

In addition, the administrative work is carried out outside the laboratory to avoid possible contamination of the samples.

The resources available in each of the different areas of the laboratory are detailed below.

Andrology laboratory

The andrology area is designed to perform procedures related to semen samples, such as seminograms, sperm capacitation, sperm selection, fragmentation analysis, sample processing for IVF-ICSI, freezing of semen samples, etc.

Next Fertility Murcia does not have andrologists, but the embryologists themselves are in charge of the management of the andrology area and semen preparation.

This laboratory of Next Fertility Murcia has:

  • 1 Laminar flow hood.
  • 1 Phase contrast microscope
  • 1 Incubator
  • 2 Centrifuges.

Next Fertility Murcia has its own semen sample bank (CEIFER) and is suitable for working with infectious samples. In addition, the method used for the cryopreservation of semen samples is slow freezing.

IVF Laboratory

This laboratory has two doors and one of them connects to the operating room as mentioned above. In both cases, these are automatic doors and have restricted access to authorized personnel only.

In addition, the Next Fertility Murcia laboratory has stainless steel furniture and no windows. The wall corners and floor baseboards are rounded, as in the operating room. In addition, this area has positive pressure and a filtering system in ventilation ducts with HEPA filters. All this ensures optimal conditions for embryo culture and that the laboratory is completely sterile.

As for the material and equipment present in this laboratory, there are three laminar flow hoods, two heated surfaces, an inverted microscope, three heated blocks, three microinjectors with anti-vibration table, seven automatic pipettes, three classic Heracell 150 incubators and an Embryoscope time-lapse incubator.

The method used in the laboratory of Next Fertility Murcia for the freezing of embryos and oocytes is vitrification and they have cryopreservation banks. In addition, they use the laser method to perform embryo biopsies and all the staff are trained to do so.

Recovery room

Just outside the operating room are the recovery rooms. In total, Next Fertility Murcia has 3 recovery rooms. All of them are spacious and have their own bathroom, although only one of them has a shower.

The furniture in the recovery rooms includes an articulated stretcher, a closet to store personal belongings, a television and WIFI. Therefore, patients undergoing surgery, such as follicular puncture, will be able to recover in these rooms with peace of mind. In addition, patients will receive water or juice before discharge.

Nursing room

This is where blood draws are performed for Next Fertility patients. However, the samples are sent to an external laboratory because Next Fertility Murcia has no equipment for biochemical analysis.

Despite this, the Next Fertility nursing room has an armchair with armrests, a sink, a refrigerator and a centrifuge for obtaining serum and plasma. In addition, there is a cabinet for storing consumables.

Semen sample collection room

Next Fertility Murcia has a room for the collection of semen samples and is located right next to the andrology laboratory.

This room has a black chair, a sink, a paper dispenser on the wall, a television and a buzzer. Thus, when the patients have collected the sample, they ring the bell and the laboratory staff comes to collect the sample for processing.

What is the first visit like?

The first visit at Next Fertility Murcia is free of charge and involves the reception staff, patient care, the nurse and the gynecologist. The first consultation at the clinic usually lasts about 1 hour and can be done in Spanish, English, German or Italian.

Next Fertility Murcia recommends its patients to bring all clinical reports, analysis and/or diagnostic tests performed previously to the first visit, for a better initial assessment.

This first visit consists of a presentation and several questions will be asked to create the patient's medical history. In addition, the visit includes a gynaecological examination, an ultrasound scan to measure ovarian reserve, a blood test to assess anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) and a basic semen analysis.

Next Fertility Murcia is open Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 8:00pm for initial consultations and ultrasounds. Embryo transfers are performed from 11:00am - 4:00pm

Once the consultation is over, patients will return to the waiting room where they will be given a personalized estimate based on the recommendations established by the specialist. Patients may have to wait a little while, since the quote is made on the spot according to the diagnosis established by the gynecologist.

In addition, the first consultation includes the second visit for results where a 50% discount will be offered for complementary tests.

In the case of international patients, Next Fertility Murcia provides the option of having a video call completely free of charge.

  • Female fertility testing.
  • Male fertility testing.
  • Karyotyping.
  • Thrombophilia study.
  • Two-dimensional ultrasound to confirm pregnancy.

Other services

In order for assisted reproduction treatments to be successful, the intervention of other medical specialists in addition to the gynecologist may be necessary. Therefore, Next Fertility Murcia offers its patients the following services:

  • Psychological counseling. One visit is included for AI treatments and 2 visits for IVF and oocyte donation. Otherwise, patients will have to pay 60 euros for each session with the psychologist.
  • Acupuncture, although this treatment is performed outside the clinic.
  • External urology service.
  • External Geneticist.

In addition, Next Fertility Murcia has a medical committee for highly complex cases and specialized units for repeat miscarriages and implantation failures.

Success rates

The Spanish Fertility Society is in charge of compiling the results of all the Spanish assisted reproduction clinics every year and making a statistical analysis. In fact, the SEF is the only scientific and independent organization of the clinics that collects and publishes these data in an objective manner.

Although our analysis of this clinic was carried out in 28th November, 2022, we have to indicate that the last report published by the SEF shows the success rates obtained in the year 2019 (National Activity Register 2019-SEF Register).

Normally, there is a delay of about 2 years in the publication of these statistics due to the difficulty in data collection and the controls that are carried out. It should be noted that, to collect data from a gestation achieved in December 2017, we must wait until delivery, which will be approximately in September 2018.

It should also be taken into account that directly comparing pregnancy rates between different clinics can lead to misunderstandings because there are many factors that influence the results, such as the cause of sterility or the particular characteristics of each treatment.

Therefore, the SEF data shown below should be taken as a mere guide. In addition, we recommend reading this article for a better interpretation of the statistics.

Realized cycles

Number of total cycles performed by the clinic in a year.

The SEF does not provide an exact number of annual cycles that each center performs, but rather it does so in the form of ranges as follows: less than 100 annual cycles, between 100 and 500 annual cycles, or more than 500 annual cycles.

From inviTRA we consider that for a better interpretation of the results it would be good that the SEF provides more exact data or smaller ranges for the number of annual cycles.

This is the total number of cycles performed by Next Fertility Murcia in a year.

Implantation rate per transfer

The probability that an embryo will implant in the woman's uterus after the transfer.

This success rate refers to the probability that a transferred embryo will nest in the woman's uterus. It is calculated as follows: number of gestational sacs observed on ultrasound divided by the number of embryos transferred.

The SEF shows this value in the form of an interval, since it is very complicated to provide an exact percentage due to the variability of factors that we have already discussed.

It should also be taken into account that the more assisted reproduction cycles the clinic performs, the narrower this interval will be and the better the interpretation.

Below, we show the implantation rates per embryo transfer in Next Fertility Murcia.

More information
Fresh embryo transfer
7.2% - 30.9%
Frozen embryo transfer
23% - 42.2%

Pregnancy probability per transfer

Probability that an embryo transfer will lead to a pregnancy, regardless of the number of embryos transferred.

This success rate refers to the probability of pregnancy for each embryo transfer, regardless of the number of embryos transferred and the type of gestation obtained, that is, whether it is a single or multiple gestation.

The SEF divides this success rate according to the woman's age and is also shown in the form of an interval, so it is likely that very large intervals will be found in clinics that perform few cycles.

These are the pregnancy rates per embryo transfer obtained by Next Fertility Murcia.

Percentage of transferred embryos

Percentage of embryo transfers made with one, two or three embryos

According to Law 14/2006 on Assisted Human Reproduction Techniques, in Spain it is only permitted to transfer a maximum of 3 embryos at each attempt.

Even so, a higher percentage of single-embryo transfers is now considered a quality parameter for clinics, since although transfers of two or three embryos increase the rate of gestation, twin or multiple pregnancies have many risks for the mother and babies and must be avoided at all costs.

The recommendation of inviTRA is to transfer only 1 or 2 embryos whenever possible.

In Next Fertility Murcia they have the following percentages in terms of number of embryos transferred.

Fresh embryo transfer

Transfer of 1 embryo (50%)
Transfer of 2 embryos (50%)
Transfer of 3 embryos (0%)

Frozen embryo transfer

Transfer of 1 embryo (75.7%)
Transfer of 2 embryos (24.3%)

Type of pregnancy per transfer

Types of pregnancies achieved according to the number of embryos transferred

As we have said, a single gestation is the best result that can be obtained after an assisted reproduction treatment.

In the following graphs, the percentage of each type of gestation obtained in Next Fertility Murcia is shown according to the number of embryos transferred.

Due to the risks associated with multiple pregnancies (lower birth weight, higher probability of premature birth, etc.), the ideal would be to always obtain a single gestation rate of 100%, regardless of having transferred 1, 2 or 3 embryos.

IVF with egg donation

Realized cycles

Number of total cycles performed by the clinic in a year.

As far as egg donation is concerned, these are the ranges of annual cycles performed by Next Fertility Murcia.

As we have indicated above, the SEF does not provide the exact number of cycles performed by a center and that makes it difficult to interpret.

More information
Cycles with fresh embryos: 0 a 99 per year
Cycles with frozen embryos: 0 a 99 per year

Implantation rate per transfer

The probability that an embryo will implant in the woman's uterus after the transfer.

The probability of a successful egg donation is usually higher than that of IVF with own eggs.

Taking this into account, these are the implantation rates obtained in Next Fertility Murcia for IVF with donated eggs.

More information
Fresh embryo transfer
33.8% - 62%
Frozen embryo transfer
26.2% - 49.6%

Pregnancy probability per transfer

Probability that an embryo transfer will lead to a pregnancy, regardless of the number of embryos transferred.

In the case of egg donation, the probability of achieving a pregnancy does not depend so much on the age of the recipient woman. Still, the SEF divides this success rate equally into age ranges.

It should also be noted that the current trend is to perform IVF with frozen donor eggs rather than fresh ones.

These are the pregnancy rates by embryo transfer obtained in Next Fertility Murcia for egg donation.

Percentage of transferred embryos

Percentage of embryo transfers made with one, two or three embryos

Given the high probability of achieving a pregnancy with donated eggs, it is always preferable to transfer a single embryo in this treatment in order to avoid a multiple pregnancy.

In Next Fertility Murcia the embryos resulting from egg donation are transferred in the following manner.

Artificial insemination with partner's sperm

Pregnancy rate per cycle

Number of pregnancies per cycle according to the woman's age.

This success rate refers to the probability of achieving a pregnancy for each artificial insemination performed.

The SEF divides this success rate according to the woman's age and is also shown in the form of an interval, so it is likely to be found with very large intervals in clinics that perform few cycles.
