A woman who becomes pregnant with a high BMI has a higher risk of obstetric complications than a woman with a normal BMI. For this reason, it would be advisable to lose weight before becoming pregnant.
In addition, it will be very important for the specialist to monitor how much weight the woman gains during pregnancy, to prevent excessive weight gain.
On the other hand, postpartum weight retention should not be forgotten, since an increase in BMI could increase the risk of certain obstetric problems in a future pregnancy.
