Testicular orchitis (inflammation of one or both testicles) can have several causes. The most common are a viral infection by mumps, sexually transmitted infections, a urinary tract infection, an infection from the prostate or epididymis, etc.
In general, orchitis of bacterial origin is treated with effective antibiotics and has a better prognosis than those caused by the mumps virus. Parotid orchitis can only be treated with anti-inflammatories and pain killers.
