The main symptom of possible placental abruption in pregnancy is the presence of bleeding, although it is often accompanied by uterine contractions. The amount of bleeding will depend on the degree of placental abruption. Thus, the greater the placental abruption, the more bleeding the pregnant woman will have.
Other typical signs associated with placental abruption are abdominal pain, back pain and a sudden drop in blood pressure, which can even cause the woman to go into shock.
