A planned caesarean section is one that is planned in advance, before labour begins. The reason is that there is a situation or condition that contraindicates vaginal delivery, because vaginal delivery could present risks to the mother or baby.
In any case, the benefits and risks of a planned caesarean section must be carefully weighed, as it is a major surgical procedure and is not without risk.
