A polycystic ovary is characterized by the presence of 8 or more follicles during menstruation, that is, under basal conditions. Normally, these follicles are 2-9 mm in size and are found at rest, so they tend to atrophy and form cysts.

Polycystic ovaries should not be confused with PCOS, as this syndrome is an endocrine and/or hormonal disorder in women. However, PCOS does not necessarily affect a woman's hormonal system.

However, there are times when women with polycystic ovaries describe menstrual changes such as:

Anovulation
women with polycystic ovaries may have menstrual cycles without ovulation.
Oligomenorrhea
long menstrual cycles of 35 days or more.

In such situations, a woman may have difficulty achieving pregnancy. However, there are treatments that induce ovulation, and therefore, it will be possible to achieve pregnancy naturally.
