Approximately 5-10% of pregnancies end prematurely. An overdistension of the muscles of the uterus may be the cause of preterm labour.
However, this is not the only cause. Uterine infections and inflammation can also rupture the membranes and cause premature delivery of the baby. Uterine bleeding during pregnancy may lead to preterm labour.
