Artificial insemination, or AI for short, is a simple assisted reproductive technique. However, like any other fertility treatment, it has some drawbacks.
In order to perform AI, it is necessary that the fallopian tubes are permeable. Otherwise, the sperm will not be able to reach the egg to fertilize it. In addition, the semen must be of good quality and the sperm must move progressively.
Another disadvantage of AI is that the patient will have to visit the clinic several times for successive ultrasound examinations. This is necessary since follicular growth must be monitored to induce ovulation at the correct time.
Finally, AI has a higher risk of multiple pregnancy than timed intercourse, for example.
