The oocyte quality is one of the most important factors to obtain good quality embryos and achieve success with an in vitro fertilization (IVF). When the ovarian reserve is diminished, the woman may have complications in achieving pregnancy naturally and suffer from female infertility.
The best way to check the oocyte quality is through an IVF cycle since it allows direct observation of the eggs and the embryos they produce.
A normal, mature oocyte for fertilization has a uniform pellucid zone, a polar corpuscle in the perivitelline space, and a uniform cytoplasm.
