The main test to detect a possible case of retinitis pigmentosa is the ophthalmological examination. The specialist will carry out various tests, such as a fundus examination, measuring intraocular pressure, evaluating the pupillary reflex, assessing peripheral vision, and analyzing visual acuity. Based on the results, they can determine whether it is retinitis pigmentosa.
Similarly, genetic testing can identify the origin of the disease, allowing its transmission to offspring to be prevented through preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).
