Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare disease characterized by the degeneration of the cones and rods in the retina. As a result, retinitis pigmentosa causes blindness in many cases.
Night blindness is one of the possible symptoms of retinitis pigmentosa. During the day, the patient may see objects normally, but this is not the case in the dark. Tunnel vision is another sign of this disease, as is the loss of central vision.
Other symptoms of retinitis pigmentosa include color distortion, glare sensitivity, and decreased visual acuity.
