The first diagnostic test that the specialist will perform in the event of a threatened miscarriage will be an ultrasound, either vaginally or abdominally. Through this ultrasound test, the gynecologist will evaluate the amount of bleeding and will check if there is a heartbeat.
In addition, the doctor will request a blood test from the pregnant woman to evaluate the levels of beta hCG hormone for several successive days. In this way, he or she will know if the pregnancy is progressing correctly if the amount of beta hCG hormone is increasing. The level of progesterone and the number of white and red blood cells will also be measured.
