Sperm DNA fragmentation is analyzed through a test that complements the basic semen analysis. This type of fragmentation test is mainly indicated in cases of:
- Unexplained infertility.
- Poor embryo quality.
- Varicocele.
- Recurrent miscarriage.
- Male age over 45 years.
- Smoking.
However, sperm DNA fragmentation testing is also performed in cases of previous in vitro fertilization (IVF) failure and when semen samples show abnormal results in the basic semen analysis.
