The scrotum is the pouch where the testicles are located and ideally they should be about two degrees below body temperature. Therefore, if the testicles are above 35ºC, scrotal hyperthermia occurs.
The main consequence of scrotal hyperthermia is the alteration of sperm quality, as a high temperature in the testicles causes:
- Decrease in the number of spermatozoa.
- Alteration of sperm motility.
- Alteration of sperm morphology.
- Increased sperm fragmentation.
