ZIFT or intratubal zygote transfer has a number of requirements. The first of these is that at least one of the fallopian tubes must be patent for ZIFT to be performed. This is because the zygote is introduced into the patient's fallopian tube, but must be able to reach the uterus to implant.
ZIFT is also not indicated if the patient has uterine problems or a previous ectopic pregnancy.
