Multiple pregnancy is one of the possible disadvantages of artificial insemination. Although oocyte production is gently stimulated, it is possible that several eggs may develop and be fertilized, resulting in multiple pregnancies, although clinics are increasingly adjusting the treatment to each patient in order to reduce this type of pregnancy.
Ovarian hyperstimulation can also occur, although this is rare, since the hormone doses administered are usually low.
On the other hand, ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages can also occur, especially in the first weeks of gestation.
