Ovarian stimulation consists of the administration of hormones to promote ovarian activity. In the case of ovarian stimulation for artificial insemination (IUI), the amount of hormones injected is less compared to ovarian stimulation for in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The duration of an ovarian stimulation protocol for AI is usually around 8-14 days. The first days of menstruation begin with the administration of GnRH analogues subcutaneously. When the ovarian stimulation phase is coming to an end, hCG, a hormone responsible for triggering ovulation, is administered to proceed with insemination.
