Conization is a surgical procedure lasting less than 1 hour through which part of the abnormal uterine tissue is removed. A scalpel, diathermy loop, or laser may be used. This type of conization is usually considered an outpatient surgical procedure.

On the other hand, diathermic loop conization or loop electrosurgical removal consists of using a wire previously heated with electricity.
