A woman's cholesterol levels tend to increase during pregnancy, due to the hormonal and metabolic changes that occur during pregnancy. However, it is not common for pregnant women's cholesterol levels to be closely monitored.
Nevertheless, a woman with a high cholesterol problem who wants to become pregnant should consult her doctor before seeking pregnancy. In this way, the specialist will be able to assess whether she should abandon her treatment (statins are not indicated in pregnancy) or replace it with another drug, and will also be able to monitor the pregnancy more closely.
