What are Chromosomes?

Chromosome is a term used in biology and cytogenetics to refer to each of the highly organized structures formed by DNA and proteins. These structures contain most of an individual's genetic information.

Chromosomes are found in the nucleus of cells and appear in a constant number in each species. In the case of humans, almost all cells contain 46 chromosomes, except for sperm and ova containing 23.
