When the specialist requests a hormonal profile of the woman for a fertility study it is necessary to perform a blood draw. The blood sample will be analyzed in the laboratory.
However, it is important to take into account the moment in time at which this hormonal analysis should be performed. The hormones LH, FSH, estradiol and prolactin should be analyzed between the third and fifth day of the menstrual cycle for the result to be reliable. In contrast, the hormone progesterone will be evaluated on day 21 of the cycle so that it can indicate whether ovulation has occurred.
Finally, anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) can be tested at any time during a woman's menstrual cycle since its concentration does not vary throughout the cycle.
