Ovulation and the menstrual cycle are regulated by the hormonal secretions of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis. If there is any failure or alteration in this axis, the hormonal release is modified and this can cause lack of ovulation or alteration of the menstrual cycle, resulting in infertility of ovarian or endocrine origin.
