The luteal phase of the menstrual cycle is when a woman's body prepares for a possible pregnancy. However, if this is not the case, menstruation will appear at the end of the luteal phase.
In relation to this phase of the menstrual cycle, it is possible that two situations may occur that cause alterations in female fertility. On the one hand, a luteal insufficiency may occur, causing the ovaries not to produce the amount of progesterone necessary for gestation to take place.
On the other hand, the syndrome of unruptured lutealized follicles may occur. This means that the corpus luteum is formed even though ovulation has not previously taken place.
