When is it recommended to perform a NIPT?

All pregnant women can have a non-invasive prenatal test to make sure their baby is genetically healthy. However, this type of prenatal testing is especially recommended in the following situations:

  • High risk in first trimester screening.
  • History of pregnancies with anomalies.
  • Progenitors with altered karyotypes.
  • Suspicious ultrasound findings.

Thanks to the study of fetal DNA in maternal blood it is possible to reduce at least 90% of unnecessary amniocentesis
