Hysterosalpingography is a diagnostic test based on an X-ray using a contrast medium to visualise the fallopian tubes and uterus. This test is performed between day 8 and 11 of the woman's menstrual cycle and will test whether the tubes are patent.
If the tube is blocked and not patent, the contrast will not be able to pass through and nothing will be seen. On the other hand, if the tube is patent, the contrast will be seen.
