A couple who are trying to conceive should seek fertility treatment if they have not succeeded after 12 months of frequent sexual intercourse without contraception. However, the waiting period is reduced to 6 months if the woman is over 35 years of age, due to the negative effect that age has on female fertility.
During this first visit to the assisted reproduction clinic, an overall assessment of the situation will be made and a fertility study of the woman and her partner (if applicable) can be initiated.
