Hey, my husband was diagnosed with azoospermia after going through varicocele… with sperm motility zero. He’s 26 years old and our dream has always been to have children… What are our chances? He is undergoing surgery next month, with a testicular biopsy included… Now what?? Please, help us out!

  2. Dear morgrad,

Varicocele causes an enlargement in the veins of the testicles, which alters the process of sperm formation (spermatogenesis). The most severe consequence of this condition is azoospermia. This sperm alteration is diagnosed when the sperm count is zero or just a few with very poor motility, as in your case.

Surgery as a treatment for varicocele is a successful option in the majority of the cases. After the procedure, a semen analysis is performed anew to check if the results have improved. If this did not happen, a testicular biopsy can help the specialist to rescue some motile sperms to be used for your IVF treatment.

Typically, couples with this problem are able to achieve pregnancy successfully after undergoing these procedures. Sperm donation would be a last-resort option for you to become parents.

I hope I have been able to help,

    Best wishes

  3. Hi there! We also had to face such consequences. My husband was a healthy man. He used to do yoga and exercises daily which are necessary. He was fertile too with a very high sperm count. But a very unlucky day came into our lives when he meets an accident. He was driving back to home from the office when he meets a fatal accident with another car. The accident was so rash that he faced serious injuries on his legs and chest area. He was diagnosed and luckily recovered within few weeks. The second most unexpected incident happened was he fell into the disease in which his tissues got stretched. This was the side effect of the drugs he took when diagnosed. Doctors said that they noticed very low sperm count and just after it, declared him infertile. That was really heartbreaking. The wish of having our own baby seemed to be like a dream. He had many treatments but nothing worked.

  4. I know its a great loss, infertility is a contentious issue. And you have experienced infertility at such a young age. Surrogacy is a widely opted ART for infertility. This allows you to carry your own child without having to carry it. But you have to go for sperm donation which would allow you have a successful pregnancy. This would be your own child genetically linked to you. Choose your options, search for fertility clinics which are well equipped and have skilled doctors. I wish you a blissful surrogacy.

  5. Oh, dear, that is very sad to come across. I hope you’re holding up okay. Since your husband is undergoing surgery soon, let’s hope his semen results would improve. I don’t mean to put you down, but these treatments are never guaranteed to show results. In any case, please don’t feel low. You can always look for alternative options to serve as a Plan B. If you are unable to have a child naturally, then search other methods. Recently, IVF and surrogacy have become very popular. With increasing popularity, however, they have become very costly too. I sincerely hope that you and your husband are able to conceive naturally. But in any case if things don’t work out that way, please go for assisted reproduction while you can. Oh, and do update us of your husband’s after-surgery results. There is a couple I know who is going through the same problem. They haven’t yet scheduled a surgery, though. Good luck xx

  6. Hello,

Don’t worry everything will be fine, just keep hopes and stay positive. There are many treatments for infertility and if it doesn’t work go with surrogacy treatment.

  7. Hi there,

I am very sorry to hear about your situation.
I would suggest to go for a second opinion and go through the tests again. I can imagine that the current situation might be stressful for you and your second half. I know that there are fertility donor banks and you could speak to a specialist. Have you been to one of those donor banks already?

  8. Hi there! I’m sorry for the issues your dh faces.. This must be hard for both of you. I’m hoping so much surgery will change things for better. In case if not you might need to look onto sperm donation. I’m sorry if it sounds not calming at all but I experienced 2 ivf cycles with my ex who had low sperm quality & got bfns. I’m not blaming him anyway, because dr told us my right ovary never responded to treatments, so I’m sure these are both sided issues. Still sperm quality is vital in ivf. Currently my amh came in to be extreamelly low. My new dh is ok. We’ve recently applied for ivf with donor egg overseas.
In your shoes, I’d go somewhere else for the 2nd opinion. Surgery is the way to opt. But going to donor sperm is too much personal decision. As one never knows how this will influence the relationship/self confidence..I hope this will be the last thing to count on in your case. Stay both strong!!
