US social security number and donating my eggs

    Hello,

I’m going to donate my eggs here in NYC, but I don’t know whether I should have a social security number, because I’m just working here with a valid work permit.

Is it enough or do I need to get a passport, green card or something like that?

    Thanks

  2. Dear Djamila,

the truth is, eligibility for egg donation in the USA is in the hands of each fertility clinic or egg bank. However, there are only two options in which candidates may be accepted:

    1. You are a permanent resident with a valid Social Security Number
    2. You have a valid Work Permit.

If you have a valid work permit, then you might be eligible to donate your eggs, but you’d better ask your clinic or bank to get accurate answers. Anyway, you may file a tax return with the IRS later in order to receive a reimbursement of a percentage of the withheld taxes. The following threads may be of interest:

    1. Taxes on egg donation: should payment be taxable income?
    2. Is surrogacy coverage included in Obama’s Affordable Care Act?

I hope I have been able to help in some way,

    Regards
