Hello there! I’m a 19-year-old girl who is about to start college and I’ve considered donating my eggs to get some cash and pay my PhD later. In my family we’re all Jewish and some women in my community argue that we Jewish people are banned from egg donation in the US for no apparent reason. I would like to know why assuming this is true? If so, it’s so sad 🙁 🙁

No, that is not true. The only thing the ASRM establishes as an additional requirement is addressed to prospective egg donors of Ashkenazi-Jewish origin. In such case, in addition to being medically, psychologically, and genetically screened, they have to be tested for the following:
– Cystic fibrosis (CF) mutation
– Tay-Sachs disease
– Canavan disease
– Familial dysautonomia
– Gaucher diseaseThese are the only additional requirements the ASRM recommends in case the donor is of Ashkenazi-Jewish origin.
