What factors increase the risk of gestational diabetes? Gestational diabetes is included in type II diabetes and occurs in 1-3% of pregnant women. The risk of suffering gestational diabetes may increase according to ethnicity. In addition, if there is a family history of diabetes, there is a higher risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy.
Arterial hypertension, excess amniotic fluid, miscarriages or overweight, among others, are also risk factors for the onset of gestational diabetes.
