hCG is known to be the pregnancy hormone, as this hormone is produced by the embryo. Therefore, if this hormone is detected in a woman's urine or blood, it is indicative that she is pregnant.
In addition, the assessment of free beta hCG is included, along with other parameters such as nuchal translucency, in the triple screening. This screening is performed in the first trimester of pregnancy and serves to evaluate the risk of certain chromosomal alterations, such as Down syndrome.
