Haemophilia is an inherited disease characterised by a defect in clotting factors, which causes bleeding that is difficult to control. Depending on the type of clotting factor defect, haemophilia can be:
- Haemophilia A or classical haemophilia: this is the most common type of haemophilia and is due to a deficit in clotting factor VIII.
- Haemophilia B or Crhistmas disease caused by a deficiency in clotting factor IX.
