When there is suspicion of hyperprolactinemia, the first test that the specialist will order will be a blood test to evaluate prolactin levels. Previously, the physician will have exhaustively studied the clinical history (anamnesis) to find out if there is a family history or if the patient is taking contraceptives or any other drug.
Another diagnostic test that the specialist may request is an MRI to rule out the presence of prolactinomas in the pituitary gland.
