Other causes of hyperprolactinemia

The most common cause of increased prolactin levels in the blood and thus the occurrence of hyperprolactinemia is pregnancy. However, this pathology can also arise as a consequence of the presence of adenomas in the pituitary gland, which are called prolactinomas.

In addition, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), certain medications or birth control pills can also be the reason for increased prolactin levels in the blood.
