Vaginismus consists of a narrowing of the vagina due to the involuntary contraction of the perivaginal muscles. As the vagina narrows, sexual intercourse can become painful and even prevent penetration.
For this reason, women with vaginismus may experience fertility problems and difficulty achieving pregnancy.
