Infertility is defined as theinability to carry a pregnancy to term due to various factors, although fertilization of the egg by the sperm does occur. Infertility is usually referred to as failure of embryo implantation, miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

This term is similar to sterility, so it is important not to confuse the two. However, both infertility and sterility refer to problems in conceiving.
