The IUD is an intrauterine device with contraceptive effect that can be copper or hormonal. In the case of the hormonal IUD, it produces a release of hormones in the body that helps prevent pregnancy and reduce pain and the amount of bleeding during the menstrual cycle.
Currently, there are different commercial brands of hormonal IUDs, each with a different duration of effectiveness:
- Jaydess: 3 years.
- Jaydess: 3 years.
- Mirena: 7 years.
Although the duration of the IUD is 3, 5 or 7 years, it does not mean that it is necessary to keep it all the time. The IUD can be removed whenever the woman wishes without any problem.
