Listeriosis is a fairly serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated by the bacterium Listeria Monocytogenes. If a pregnant woman contracts listeriosis, the infection can be transmitted vertically to the foetus, which would pose a great danger to the pregnancy.
Babies born with listeria will show symptoms in the first days of life. Some of them are:
- Poor appetite.
- Fever.
- Irritability.
- Breathing problems.
- Vomiting.
- Rash.
