Symptoms of luteal phase insufficiency

Luteal phase insufficiency is known as an alteration in which progesterone levels do not reach adequate values in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, or when there is resistance to progesterone at the endometrial level.

Because of this, it is possible that the uterine endometrium is not properly prepared for a possible implantation, which can lead to problems in achieving pregnancy or in its development.

Therefore, among the symptoms of luteal insufficiency would be:

  • Spotting or irregular menstruation.
  • Short luteal phase, 10 days or less.
  • Difficulties in achieving pregnancy.
  • Spontaneous miscarriage.

However, there is some controversy regarding luteal phase insufficiency and the diagnosis can be complicated.
