Sperm FISH or fluorescence in situ hybridisation is a complementary test in the study of male fertility. It is a cytogenetic study based on the marking of sperm chromosomes with certain probes. Thanks to this study, it is possible to know the chromosomal endowment of the spermatozoa.
However, FISH of spermatozoa is not a routine test, but is usually indicated when:
- Karyotypes are altered.
- The result of the semen analysis is abnormal.
- After cancer treatment.
- Repeated miscarriages.
- Implantation failures.
- Advanced paternal age.
