Semen analysis is the essential test for the study of male fertility. It involves obtaining a semen sample by masturbation, which will be analyzed in the laboratory, both macroscopically and microscopically.
Among the macroscopic semen parameters are volume, viscosity, liquefaction and pH. In addition, it is important to study parameters under the microscope such as sperm concentration, motility, morphology and vitality.
When a drop of semen is observed under the microscope, the presence of leukocytes can also be detected, which would be indicative of a possible infection.
