Combined first trimester screening should be offered to women before 14 weeks of gestation. This prenatal study includes a clinical evaluation, a biochemical analysis through a blood sample and an ultrasound.
The blood test and ultrasound can be done at the same time, which would be a combined screening at one time. However, there is also the possibility of doing the ultrasound between 8 and 13 weeks and, at another time, the ultrasound. In this case, we speak of combined screening at two times, but it is necessary that the ultrasound scan, although not performed at the same time as the biochemical analysis, be done between 11 and 13 weeks.
